Getting Ready

For a while I was in a pickle.  I've been planning on studying for my CPA license for when we return to America, so I wanted to buy some books for it.  I found a good series, but a new edition comes out in December of this year.  Since the CPA exam changes from year to year depending on what crazy politicians decide is good for financial regulations or if there are any new practices in the profession, it's important to have the most up-to-date information.

So my pickle was: do I wait until December to order this set and have my mother bring it out or do I start studying now with a soon to be out of date edition?

Thanks to the marvels of modern capitalism, I was able to purchase one book of the current year's set on Amazon here in Japan.  It only cost 4,000 yen (about $10 more than American Amazon) and it shipped within 24 hours of paying for it.  I figured one book will be enough to keep me busy until December and I can more or less just review with the new book and take note of any changes.

So now what I'll be doing is locking myself in my office on nights I drop Ayu off at work.  I should have ample time to hit the gym during the day this semester, so the nights will be reserved for exercising my mind.  I would stay home and do it, but I find when I "work" at home, it's more loafing around as I become a lazy shit.  If I go to the office instead, I should be able to avoid the temptation to lay down, take naps and tank up on beer.

It'll be an uphill battle trying to study for my license after taking 5 years off from the finance world, but I'll give it my best shot.  I was looking at the requirements for the Vermont CPA exams (yes, examS - there are multiple sections to the exam) the other day and I think the only thing I need is 2 solid years of experience and I should be good to go.

That's all for now!  Have a good day/night!
