Life Goes On

Well, it's Monday night and there's a whole week ahead of me.

I took advantage of the past weekend by making up some bread for this week. I took one loaf of my sourdough and spiked it with dried tomatoes and walnuts. It was pretty yummy! Next time I'll try some fruit and walnuts. The walnuts match the nutty, slightly sour tinge of the bread quite well, and I'm sure the nutrition boost is quite nice too.

Tomorrow marks the start of my online course at the Mises Academy. I'm rather excited but the workload will be more than enough to keep me busy. It's a short course and it is based on an important book written by one of my favorite authors, FA Hayek.

For those who are wondering what it's all about, it's a political science/economy course and the drawbacks and negative influences of government. Hayek, as well as the Austrian school of economics, firmly believed that the answer to most, if not all, of our problems today lie not in government coercion but rather in personal responsibility and individual freedom. I'll leave it at that and let you learn more if you're curious.

Friday is another important day in the book of Bill. It turns out my heartburn may be related to something else, something that I long suspected but never seriously considered:

An ulcer! So Friday I'm getting the famous stomach cam sent in to see what the skinny is. I have a good feeling it's an ulcer since I have the classic symptoms: nasty heartburn/reflux, goes away when I eat and a gassy/bloated feeling.

As most normal people would be, I'm quite nervous about it. I'm not nervous about the actual procedure but rather what they might find. When the doctor showed me pics of people with cancers and whatnot, it was enough to fire the pessimism, doom and gloom, the-world-is-ending engine in the brain.

My hope is they get in there, see an ulcer, and only an ulcer, and give me the meds I need to finally kick this thing. I can't remember the last time my stomach (or throat) felt relatively normal and I'm more than ready for a change. It's funny, when I was a kid and I saw all these commercials about sick adults complaining about this problem or that, I used to think, well, it can't be that bad! Now them I'm advancing in the ranks of age, I'm finding out that it rather sucks. If it's indeed an ulcer and I can kick it, I'm going maximum effort on my goal of attaining around 70kg before my birthday. Since I'll have that load of my shoulders, I should be able to do it.

I'll post some sort of update on Friday (perhaps with a cool pic!). Take care and have a great day!
