Buzzzzzzzz

I've long been appreciative of alcohol's "medicinal" qualities, although I have a suspicion it's not just me...

While I no longer enjoy getting flat out drunk, I do enjoy a good buzz every now and then. When I was a tad bit younger I did enjoy getting drunk, but now I much prefer to keep my senses about me and appreciate the fine and delicate line a good buzz straddles. Yes, yes, this could be the warning sign of an alcoholic. Worried? Nah, not really.

Tonight, after being sick for a week, after getting one day of good vacation time out of seven days, I decided it would be proper to indulge in a little bit of alcoholic medicine. Being able to drink beer is so much better than not even being able to keep water in my stomach.

I started off by enjoying two pints of English style brown ale. It was alright and a bit nostalgic for reasons I won't mention here, but it left me a bit thirsty for more. So I went back for two pints of coffee oatmeal stout. By the beginning of the third pint, we were enjoying some British comedy and having good laughs. (The comedy was called "The Vicar of Dibley" and I highly recommend it)

I decided I liked being somewhere in an alternative universe so much that I followed the stout with two very British drinks - coffee and brandy, and coffee and Baileys. All in all, after 3 hours, I had enough good laughs to keep me happy for a week and enough drinks to keep me satisfied and ready to attack the busy week ahead. I'm making good progress in my gym work and I'm looking forward to getting back to a normal workout routine after a bout of the...well...you know. Perhaps next Saturday night I'll wash down another intoxicating mix of comedy and beer and enjoy all the Brits have to offer. Although the booze is good, the laughter could be even better. Whoever said laughter is the best medicine certainly hit the nail on the head.

Tomorrow should be a good day of bread baking and errand running. Somewhere in there, I need to throw in a good workout as well. The sourdough (pictured above) is developing an excellent pungent taste to it and I couldn't be happier with my scientific experiment.

Have a great weekend everyone! Cheers!
