It's that time again to spread me (our this time!) wings and take flight to Vermont.
During the course of the semester, life seems to get crazy busy and past trips to Vermont seem to be a distant memory and any future trips a lost hope. Then, all the sudden, the trips arrive in a hurry. Sometimes the trip seems to last a long time, but often it seems to go by too quickly. I wish I could switch the perceivable time passage of a typical semester here and a trip to Vermont.
I've found I've fallen in love with Vermont all over again. It's nice to be in Vermont from the tourist's perspective. I really enjoy being surrounded by nature, kick arse food and beer, and family. I would love to move back to Vermont, but alas, a job that pays above $25k a year would be a major stumbling block. I still have two years at my current post and I'll see how things look towards the end of my contract.
Speaking of my current post, I have to say I'm more than looking forward to the next semester. I've been given the task of teaching a new class - new for me that is. The class is Business English A and I've also been given a little wiggle room as to what I want to do with the class structure/grading and such. It's nice to talk about what I want to do in class, but now that I have to actually walk the walk, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. I didn't change much structure (read: grading) wise since it's my first run through and I really don't know what to expect.
A new challenge at work has definitely piqued my interest and stirred a bit of competitiveness within me. My biggest worry is that I will come across as a real hard-ass to the students. I'm going to take the next month and a half and try to find a way to have the students achieve my objectives and do this without driving them too hard.
And abrupt end but here's to safe travels and have a good evening/day everyone!
