Today is the day my mom arrives from America. This will be her 3rd trip to Japan and it looks like she will come out next year, as well. Every year she's had some sort of problem getting out here. The first year, her flight was delayed in Chicago for something like 90 minutes and then she was also delayed for her landing in Narita by 90 minutes. She then had to take a bus to Haneda (another hour or so) to catch her flight to Komatsu....which she missed by 5 minutes. The staff in Narita told her not to worry, they contacted Haneda and said she will be a few minutes late and Haneda said no problem, they'll hold the plane. Right....
The second year she had some sort of problem with delays again, but this time, the airline staff actually did what they promised and helped out my mom.
This year, from what I understand, just as my mom was arriving in Chicago, a strong snow squall/blizzard suddenly appeared and delayed my mom's take off for 2.5 hours. I'm following her on flight tracker now and she's only one hour behind schedule. Me thinks she should be fine.
On a different note, yesterday was a whirlwind of a day. I had to ride my bike, through the rain, to the asthma doctor to get my monthly meds or I die (really!) After that, I came back and had an excellent lunch. Ayu made some boiled buri (a fish that's kinda like tuna) and Japanese radish and it was exactly what I needed after riding in the pouring rain. In addition, Ayu's mom brought some homemade inari zushi for me (which is my absolute all time favorite!)
Ayu's parents came over and we went to the electronics store to get a small space heater and to stop my cell phone's service plan (I broke my phone about 2 weeks ago...) Turns out I got a new phone for free! They had some sort of special plan going on and I lucked out big time. After that, we went to pick up the VW and then we drove up to the insurance place Ayu's father uses to get insurance for me. That is also not cheap....of course....
I guess that's all for now. I'll keep my 5 or 6 loyal readers (I found out I had one more person than I thought reading the blog!) posted on my mom's trip here and the status on my driving test in a couple of weeks.
It's a little late, but Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to everyone!
