A few weeks ago, as a final bash in Kyoto (Ayumi's moving up here this fall) we decided to explore the ancient capital of Nara. Without checking on the ever so accurate Wikipedia, Nara was the capital of Japan before Kyoto became the capital. This was something around 1,400 years ago. Now Nara sufficiently serves as a tourist hotspot and a culture heritage for Japan (although I'm not sure which is the higher priority).
The cool thing about Nara is that there are deer walking around the capital city. You can buy deer crackers and feed them to the deer, but this can be rather dangerous as the deer will end up fighting with each other for their crackers. Outside of the deer crackers, it's not advisable to give any other food to the deer. I guess a few years back many deer were dying because humans were giving human food to deer.
That's enough talking from me I guess. There are a couple of areas in Nara that I want to talk more about, but for now, I'll just post pictures of the pertty deer (intentional spelling). We're heading to Tokyo tonight on the night bus and going to some popular spots tomorrow. I'm sure I'll take many pictures and maybe upload them from the other side of the pond.
Take care everyone!
